  • You want a real switcher built on Squarespace’s native navigation.
  • You or your translator will write the translated copy.

Not a fit if…

  • You want automatic machine translation. People who do usually reach for tools like Weglot.
  • You have one set of pages for every language.
  • You’re on a Squarespace version other than 7.1. Language Switch is for 7.1 only.

What is Language Switch?
A multilingual navigation plugin for Squarespace 7.1. It adds a language switcher to your site’s own navigation, so each language, English included, lives under its own URL path (/en/, /es/, /fr/), and your menu, footer, header button and even Add to Cart labels can be translated. It’s built for Squarespace 7.1 sites only.
Does it work on Squarespace 7.0?
I only support Squarespace 7.1. Squarespace 7.0 uses different template families, so Language Switch is built and supported for 7.1 only.
Does it translate my pages automatically?
No. It’s made for sites built with a separate set of pages for each language, and you (or a translator) write those pages. If you want automatic machine translation, tools like Weglot do that. Language Switch isn’t that, and I’d rather say so now than have you find out later.
How do I install it?
With the setup guide (PDF) that comes with every purchase. It walks you through the steps in order. If you get stuck, email me and I’ll help.
How many languages can I use?
Each language gets its own set of pages and its own place in the menu. The live demo runs English, Spanish and French. If you’re planning more than that, tell me which languages and I’ll tell you honestly how it would go before you buy.
Will it work with my template?
It’s built on Squarespace’s own navigation, so it’s designed to sit inside the header your template already has. Templates differ, though. If you’re unsure, send me the template name and I’ll give you a straight answer.
What about updates and hosting?
The script is hosted, so when I fix something, or Squarespace changes something, the fix reaches your site without you reinstalling anything.
What does each license cover?
Single Site ($47) covers one live Squarespace site. Unlimited Sites ($87) covers any number of sites you own or build for clients. If you start on Single, you can upgrade later for $40 using your emailed receipt.
What if it doesn’t work?
You have 7 days. If it doesn’t work as described on a supported 7.1 site, contact me first so I can take a look. If we can’t sort it out, you get a refund. The details are on the refund policy page.
Which Squarespace plan do I need?
Core or higher. Language Switch relies on custom code, which the Personal plan doesn’t support.
Who is it for?
Business owners with customers in more than one language, designers who build multilingual sites, and translators who want a clean way to publish each language. If you can maintain a page set per language, it’s for you.
