November 2019 Squarespace Product Updates

Every week as a Squarespace Circle Member (sign-up if you regularly build client websites) we get the latest product updates sent to our email. We realized that even though this community is growing, there are a lot of other Squarespace users that don’t get these updates, so the Brad Good team wanted to compile the most important changes every month in a easy to read blog post.

If you are wondering about all of the new updates Squarespace released in November, read more below!

Week: November 4 - November 10

Point Of Sale In The iOS Commerce App

The Commerce App for iOS now supports Point of Sale (POS) for in-person sales! With Squarespace POS, you and your clients can now sell products in person, taking cash or card payments, using our integration with Square. Squarespace also gave the app a visual refresh to better match what you see on a computer.

POS is a feature that customers have requested ever since we launched the Commerce App, so we're excited to make it a reality for iOS. Visit their Help guide to learn more about getting started with in-person sales.

Multi-Channel Reporting In Sales Overview Analytics

As part of the POS launch, we also launched new filters in Analytics to display sales by channel. After making an in-person sale, you'll see a drop-down in Sales to view sales by Online Only, POS Only, or All Channels.

Learn more about Sales Analytics in their Help guide.

Waitlists For Sold Out Products

You can now create waitlists for sold out or pre-order products, encouraging your customers to sign up for an email notification directly from the product details page. By adding a waitlist, you and your Commerce clients can increase sales and create more connections with customers. When waitlists are enabled, shoppers submit their email address, then you can email the full waitlist when the product is in stock from Customer notifications.

Week: November 11 - November 17

POS Launch Follow-Up

Squarespace has received a lot of questions and comments about the launch of Point of Sale in the Commerce App.

Product Manager Shir Harel responded to questions in the announcement post, so take a look and leave a comment if you have more thoughts. Squarespace always wants to know how you and your clients are using a new feature, and what they can do to improve it.

Mobile Start Plans In The iOS Commerce App

Squarespace added a Mobile Start option to the iOS Commerce App, so you can now upgrade a trial site to paid service from the Commerce App the same way that you can from the Squarespace App.

The same terms that apply to Mobile Start in the Squarespace App also apply to the Commerce App. For example, the 20% off Circle discount won't apply to Mobile Start plans, and you'll need to upgrade on a computer to use discounts.

Improving Podcasting Settings

Squarespace has made a few improvements to the podcast setup flow, including:

  • Clearer placeholder text

  • Default values for Title, Author, and Summary fields pulled from Blog Page settings.

  • Revising the Contact Details fields to be optional

With these changes, they hope to make the process of setting up and customizing a podcast go more smoothly.

Week: November 18 - November 24

Bulk-Edit Products

In the Inventory panel, you can now export specific products or your entire catalog, make bulk changes in a spreadsheet, and then re-import it to update your inventory immediately. For example, you could mark all products as on sale or edit all prices without opening and editing each product individually.

After uploading, you’ll see a list of all successful updates and any upload errors. This feature is available on Commerce Basic and Advanced plans.

Edit 7.1 Sites In Squarespace App

The Squarespace App for iOS now supports editing version 7.1 sites. You can add Layout Pages, add and edit sections, make style changes and more.
