May 2018 Squarespace Product Updates

Every week as a Squarespace Circle Member (sign-up if you regularly build client websites) we get the latest product updates sent to our email. We realized that even though this community is growing, there are a lot of other Squarespace users that don’t get these updates, so the Brad Good team wanted to compile the most important changes every month in a easy to read blog post.

If you are wondering about all of the new updates Squarespace released in May, read more below!

Week: April 30 to May 6.

Google Search Keywords

Squarespace is excited to announce the launch of Google Search Keywords, a new integration to help you identify which keywords are driving site traffic. Google Search Keywords provides insight into a site’s search rankings and will help you create, refine, and optimize your clients’ SEO strategies.

To get started, verify your website with Google Search Console using our new, streamlined process. After verifying, data should populate in the Google Search Keywords panel within 72 hours.

Visit Squarespace’s blog and Google Search Keywords Analytics guide for more information.

Requesting a refund

For situations where a refund isn’t issued automatically, Squarespace has created a new refund request form. If you or a client believe you’re eligible for a refund but haven’t received one, contact Squarespace through the form. They review every refund request we receive and aim to respond within two business days.

Week: May 7 to May 13.

Terms of Service Update

The updated terms of service for Squarespace and Circle went into effect today (May 14, 2018). As part of this update, customers located in Ireland will no longer be exempt from VAT collection. To learn more about Value-Added Tax, check out this help center article.

Week: May 14 to May 20.

Greater cookie control

It’s now possible to restrict or disable analytics cookies. For more information, visit Adding a cookie banner.

Auto-generated Squarespace URLS

To better protect customers’ privacy, we now generate site IDs for built-in domains from two random words instead of the customer’s name.

Customize newsletter checkbox labels

When adding a newsletter subscribe option at checkout, you can now customize the text displayed with the opt-in checkbox.

Week: May 21 to May 27th.

Code Block Update

You can now add custom CSS, HTML, and plain text to Code Blocks on Personal plans.

Squarespace received a lot of feedback from Circle members about how the inability to use the Code Block on personal plans affected your businesses. For your Personal plan clients, you can now add custom CSS, HTML and plain text without upgrading to a Business plan. JavaScript and iframes will continue to be exclusive to Business plans.

As always, customers can downgrade to receive a refund for the difference between the Business and Personal plans for the time left in their billing period. However, Squarespace can’t provide a refund for used/past time.

Products on Instagram

Products on Instagram is a new feature that allows customers with online stores to tag products from their Squarespace stores in Instagram posts. This feature is available on the Commerce Basic and Advanced plans.

This is great for clients with large social media followings, and for up-and-coming merchants who want to use social media in their sales strategy.

To tag products with Shopping on Instagram, users will use their Squarespace store’s unique data feed to sync their inventory with a product catalog in Facebook Business Manager. Once their Instagram and Facebook accounts are set up correctly, and they receive approval from Instagram, they’ll see an option to tag products in their Instagram business account.
