December 2019 Squarespace Product Updates

Every week as a Squarespace Circle Member (sign-up if you regularly build client websites) we get the latest product updates sent to our email. We realized that even though this community is growing, there are a lot of other Squarespace users that don’t get these updates, so the Brad Good team wanted to compile the most important changes every month in a easy to read blog post.

If you are wondering about all of the new updates Squarespace released in December, read more below!

Week: November 25 - December 1

Multi-Channel Reports In Sales By Product Analytics

As a follow-up to the new channel options in Sales Overview and Point of Sale in the iOS Commerce App, you and your Commerce clients can now compare product sales data from your online store and in-person sales in Sales by Product Analytics.

To learn more, visit their Sales by Product Analytics Help guide.

Changing To Product Imports And Bulk-Editing

As a follow up to last week's bulk-editing launch, here are a few important changes to product importing and exporting to keep in mind:

  • Products in a .csv file must import to an existing Products Page. Previously, you could leave a column in the .csv blank to create a new Products Page in the Not Linked section. Now, you can create a new Products Page in the Not Linked section, then import to that page.

  • You can no longer add hosted image URLs to the .csv file. This means that products will import without images, but you can upload new images to the imported products.

  • When exporting inventory to a .csv file, you can now choose which products to export from the Inventory panel.

Week: December 2 - December 8

Squarespace Extensions

You can now access a curated portfolio of third-party integrations called Squarespace Extensions, which can expand the functionality of a Squarespace site. Currently, the Extensions focus on Commerce, with 14 different integrations for finance, inventory, sales, and shipping.

See all options on the Squarespace Extensions homepage. To manage extensions connected to a site, visit the new Extensions panel within Settings. This replaces the Apps panel that was previously under Commerce, and you'll find your existing apps within Extensions.

Customize Email Campaigns Opt-In

In Email Campaigns, you can now customize the subscriber confirmation email, which was previously called “double opt-in." In the Email Campaigns panel, click the Confirmation email, then add your own text or rearrange sections.

This has been one of the top requested features within Email Campaigns, and Squarespace is excited to make it available.

Registering .CA Domains

You and your clients can now register domains ending in .ca. Note that .ca domains have a Canadian Presence Requirement (CPR) at registration.

Week: December 9 - December 15

Transactions API

The Transactions API that Squarespace released as a beta in September is now available to all developers. You can use this tool to build apps and integrations that pull transactional data about orders, refunds, and donations. The API also supports exporting order data to accounting systems. Thank you to Circle members who participated in the beta!

To get started, review the developer documentation.

New Accounting Options In Squarespace Extensions

Squarespace Extensions now has three new Finance extensions:

  • Greenback

  • Quickbooks Online by OneSaas

  • Xero by OneSaas

You and your clients can use these extensions for accounting tasks, such as expense reports, sales data, and tracking inventory.

Learn more in their Squarespace Extensions Help guide.

Week: December 16 - December 22

More Templates Available In Non-English Languages

You and your clients can now use more 7.0 templates in non-English languages. These template variants in the Montauk and Pacific template families now support changing the built-in language and changing the text that site visitors see:

  • Montauk family: Julia, Kent, Om

  • Pacific family: Charlotte, Naomi, Pacific

Note that this update only applies to those specific variants, not all variants in the families.

New Squarespace Status Page

The Squarespace Status page now offers more visibility into the status of specific parts of Squarespace by breaking out status indicators for products such as Analytics, Domains, and G Suite. You can also subscribe to email or text message updates from this page.

Accessibility Improvements To Commerce Checkout

Visitors purchasing products from a Commerce site can now complete a purchase using only a keyboard. This is a big improvement for Squarespace visitors with vision impairments or visitors who don't use a mouse to navigate sites.

To learn more about making a Squarespace site more accessible, visit Squarespace’s accessibility Help guide.

Week: December 23 - December 29

Improvements In iOS And Mobile Web

There are several improvements in the newly released iOS Squarespace App v1.5. You and your clients can now:

  • Add Newsletter Blocks and Form Blocks

  • Adjust Site Visibility

  • Create a new trial

  • Create Blog Collections in 7.1

Squarespace also made improvements to the interface and content editor on mobile web. Learn more about what you can do on mobile in their Help guide.
