October 2019 Squarespace Product Updates

Every week as a Squarespace Circle Member (sign-up if you regularly build client websites) we get the latest product updates sent to our email. We realized that even though this community is growing, there are a lot of other Squarespace users that don’t get these updates, so the Brad Good team wanted to compile the most important changes every month in a easy to read blog post.

If you are wondering about all of the new updates Squarespace released in October, read more below!

Week: September 30 - October 6

Sold Out Labels On Product Variants

You can now add a "Sold Out" label to specific product variants that are out of stock, instead of only applying the label to the entire product. This has been a popular feature request that helps make a store's specific stock more visible.

If “Sold Out” isn’t the ideal text for a store, you can customize the label. Learn more about sold out labels in their Help guide.

Week: October 7 - October 13

Google Recaptcha Available For Newsletter Blocks

To help fight spam submissions, you can now also enable Google reCAPTCHA on Newsletter Blocks. When it's enabled, visitors need to check an "I'm not a robot" box before submitting their information.

Learn more about enabling reCAPTCHA in their Help guide.

Quick Links To Upgrade Or Reactivate From Account Dashboard

If you or your clients have a site that's on a trial, past due, or expired, you can now upgrade or reactivate the site from the Account Dashboard. Clicking the Upgrade, Fix Now, or Reactivate button brings you directly to that site's Billing panel or to checkout.

This is a great way to quickly take action on one site when you're managing multiple sites on an account.

Stricter Submission Limit For Form Blocks

In response to an influx of spam submissions in Form Blocks, Squarespace changed the limit on how frequently a single IP address can submit a form. The new limit is 4 submissions per minute, updated from the previous 20 submissions per minute. With this new limit, you and your clients should see less spam coming from forms.

Week: October 14 - October 20

Mobile Start Plan In The Squarespace App

You can now upgrade trial sites to paid service on the Squarespace App for iOS. This can help you close client projects on the go, but please note:

  • Discounts, including the Circle 20% discount, don’t automatically apply to Mobile Start plans. Upgrade from trial to paid service on a computer to apply the discount, or contact Squarespace Customer Support to apply the discount to a Mobile Start plan retroactively.

  • Mobile Start plans last 30 days and don’t auto-renew.

  • After a Mobile Start plan expires, you can repurchase the same Mobile Start plan or log into the site on a computer to upgrade to a standard billing plan.

  • G Suite, Getty Images, and Squarespace Domains can’t be purchased on Mobile Start plans.

To learn more and see full terms, visit Upgrading to a Mobile Start plan.

New Guide: Selling On Squarespace

Check out Selling on Squarespace, a microsite to help merchants before, during, and after the holiday season. You can share this site with clients, or use it as a springboard for developing your own educational holiday content for clients.

Week: October 21 - October 27

Bedford And York Template Families Available In More Languages

As part of our ongoing initiative to make Squarespace more available internationally, all templates in the Bedford and York families are now available in supported non-English languages. You and your clients can now set the visitor-facing text in these templates to French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish. All demo content on York templates is also fully translated in the German template store.

To learn more about changing a site's language, and all available site languages, visit their Help guide.

Inventory Panel Refresh

We redesigned the Commerce Inventory panel to better match the rest of Squarespace, although everything still works the same way. The search field and stock levels moved to the right of the panel, the Add button is now a +, and there's a gear icon to quickly access Inventory settings.

To learn more about managing inventory, visit their Help guide.

Unfold Joins Squarespace

We welcomed Unfold, an app that helps users create unique stories for Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat, into the Squarespace family. Unfold's designs are a great complement to Squarespace, and they’re excited to see how it can help you expand your own services.
