May 2019 Squarespace Product Updates

Every week as a Squarespace Circle Member (sign-up if you regularly build client websites) we get the latest product updates sent to our email. We realized that even though this community is growing, there are a lot of other Squarespace users that don’t get these updates, so the Brad Good team wanted to compile the most important changes every month in a easy to read blog post.

If you are wondering about all of the new updates Squarespace released in May, read more below!

Week: April 29 - May 5

Grace Period For Free Acuity Emerging Entrepreneur Plan

Squarespace is still offering the Acuity Emerging Entrepreneur plan to you and your clients for free, now through July 31, 2019. To qualify:

  1. Add the Acuity block to an eligible site (Business or Commerce plan).

  2. Complete this form. Once it’s submitted, their Acuity team will process your request to confirm your Circle membership and comp your Emerging plan within 5 business days.

See their original announcement post for more details and to learn more about Acuity and Squarespace.

Week: May 6 - May 12

Image Reuse

You and your clients can now access and reuse images that have already been uploaded to a site. To reuse an image, open an Image Search window and toggle to the Imported tab.

Learn more in the announcement post and the Help guide.

Form Post-Submit Redirects

Forms now support redirect links, which you’ll find in every form’s Advanced tab. You and your clients can use this to direct visitors to another page or site after they click Submit.

Learn more in the Help guide.

Week: May 13 - May 19

Google My Business Private Circle Beta

Circle members are invited to a private early access beta of a new Google My Business integration. With this integration, Squarespace websites with physical locations can sync their information to Google My Business, an essential tool for SEO.

See the post from Product Manager Leanne LeBlanc to learn more about the beta and request access. The team is accepting submissions from now until May 24, after which they’ll select a handful of businesses to participate.

No-Index Option For Blog Page Category & Tag Lists

Based on feedback from the Circle community in the SEO-friendly blog URLs announcement, you can now hide category and tag lists from search engines using the Hide from Search Engines option in Blog settings.

Squarespace added this setting on May 13 after feedback from Circle members. Some customers found that category and tag lists appearing in search results may lead search engines like Google to believe a site has bad content.

Learn more in the updated Circle post and in the Help guide.

Squarespace Logo Updates

On May 16, Squarespace made a couple changes to Squarespace Logo:

  • Squrespace eliminated the option to pay for logos, meaning all downloads are high-resolution and are free with a Squarespace account. If you have a Squarespace account already, you’ll log in on the download page. If you don’t have a Squarespace account, you’ll be prompted to create one. You don’t need a paid site.

  • Squarespace standardized the login screen to match the rest of Squarespace. If you or your client use social login and/or two-factor authentication, you can now use your normal login method instead creating an app password.

Learn more in the Help guide.

The Acuity Block Is Now The Scheduling Block

Squarespace renamed the Acuity Block to the Appointment Scheduling Block. This is only a name change, and there are no changes to its functionality.

Learn more about the block in the Help guide.

Week: May 20 - May 27

New VAT/GST Collection For New Zealand, Norway, And Switzerland

Beginning June 6, Squarespace will start collecting VAT for Norway and Switzerland and GST for New Zealand. This will apply to all Getty Image purchases and website, domain, G Suite, and Email Campaigns subscriptions. Squarespace emailed all affected customers on May 24.
