August 2017 Squarespace Product Updates

Every week as a Squarespace Circle Member (sign-up if you regularly build client websites) we get the latest product updates sent to our email. We realized that even though this community is growing, there are a lot of other Squarespace users that don’t get these updates, so the Brad Good team wanted to compile the most important changes every month in a easy to read blog post.

If you are wondering about all of the new updates Squarespace released in August, read more below!

Week: July 24 to July 30.

Highlights

To keep you in the loop about changes to Squarespace documentation and resources, Squarespace will occasionally recap notable additions to guides on support.squarespace.com.

  • SEO and Analytics are now separate categories with their own sidebar navigation menus.

  • Preventing Form Block spam - A new guide on strategies to reduce spammy messages sent through Form Blocks.

  • Adding search to your site - Noted that any text surrounded by JavaScript or CSS tags within a Code Block isn’t indexed for site search.

Week: July 31 to August 6.

Highlights

  • Adding product reviews - Squarespace cleaned up this guide on unsupported third-party solutions for adding customer reviews to product item pages. Squarespace updated the screenshots and streamlined the steps.

  • Digital products - Squarespace clarified that all file types are accepted as long as the file is under 300 MB.

  • Squarespace permissions explained - Squarespace added more detailed comparison tables to explain what each contributor role can and can’t do.

  • Troubleshooting form issues - Squarespace added a “What went wrong?” section to help you identify the source of the problem and find the right solution. Squarespace added a tip that deleting and re-adding the block altogether usually helps as a first step.

Week: August 7 to August 13.

Disconnecting unverified domains

Squarespace’s system now automatically disconnects domains that aren’t verified within 15 days of connection. You can still reconnect the domain at any time after disconnection. This is to prevent domains from staying connected to unused or deleted sites that can be difficult to access.

Week: August 14 to August 20.

Highlights

  • Commerce Video Series - An overhaul and reshoot of Squarespace’s introductory tutorial videos for Commerce. This is a great offboarding resource to share with clients with online stores. The videos are updated to cover the new Commerce features released in the last year.

  • Managing your email preferences - A new guide on opting in and out of Squarespace marketing emails and other notifications.

  • Adding videos to your Squarespace site - Added a new section clarifying how different types of Index Pages treat autoplay videos in Gallery Pages.

  • Squarespace and SSL - Added more information about SSL Certificate status messages.

Using Zocdoc with Squarespace - A new guide with steps to embed a Zocdoc’s booking widget, which is useful for any medical clients. Note that you have to contact Zocdoc directly to get a client’s unique embed code.
